Lyrics
Steady As We Go
©2022 Eric Schaffer/Carol Schaffer
Young man singing on a corner
Old guitar. Spruce and steel
Young woman listens, silently considers
Turn and go. Or stay and heal
Standing face to face, wishing they could fly
Counting the stars in the sky, as the cars go by
Seems so long ago
But the river flows where the river flows
Steady as it goes
Love rolls on like that river
Wild and wide. Dark and deep
Takes all these rough edges, tumbled and delivered
Soft and smooth. Souls washed clean
Lying on the bank, staring at the clouds
Blowing our wishes in to the wind
To follow them back down
Seems so long ago
But the river flows where the river flows
Steady as it goes
All the time disappears
We’re still here, steady as we go
Life rolls on to tomorrow
Restless hearts ramble and roam
Age and imperfection bring a little bit of wisdom
It sets you free. Then leads you home
There’s gardens to be tended, miles of open road
Show me the place to begin, I’ll find the stepping stones
There’s so much more to know
But the river flows where the river flows
Steady as it goes
We’re steady as we go
